Secret Santa

I know the book review was simple today. I just wanted you to explore and apply our new Headings. Tomorrow we explore books that are more meaty, meaningful and magnificent. Though as for that have a cool afternoon. Keep up the strong effort.

Literacy Homework

If you didn't finish taking notes in Literacy: Theme, Goal, Motivation, Conflict, Inciting Incident, finish that up. It is considered homework. Remember there is an independent component in grade 7-- all incomplete work is considered homework.

Interviews

Both Ms. Fifield (Fifeild?)  and I have successfully interviewed all parents that signed up for teacher interview. It was great to place a face of the people responsible for bringing you up and turning you into outstanding citizens. I hope what I'm about to type resonated with all students during our interviews: I do not really give homework; however, if something is incomplete and needs to be finished or you think you should research a particular topic at home-- you are responsible and independent enough to do it yourselves. This is a big component in the intermediate division (initiative, responsibility, and autonomy). We meant every word spoken in the interviews. You all have potential. It's time to unlock it. Volleyball

What a great volleyball scrimmage you guys played. For our very first scrimmage you guys did very well. I suggest you check out great volleyball plays on Youtube. Continue to practice volleyball but not in your house/bedroom. Anyway, if you want to continue your book review at home, that's okay with me. I want it completed in class by tomorrow. Once again, I expect to see all of you at the interviews.

Hey guys
Like I said in class,  awesome job being on your best behaviour with the supply teacher, Miss. Barkin. Four stars awarded to all students!!! I am very pleased with you. At this point I've gone over everyone's guided reading mark, which pleases me immensely. Hi all:

I was at a conference today. The highlight or downlight was when I dropped my Macbook Air. It did survive the fall and it appears to be working well. I hope you were all great today. I will be reading the supply teacher's notes tomorrow.

Reflection Piece

Homework: Reflection piece, 1 paragraph (8-10 sentences) on a character you connected with in Rising Above.
The assignment is on Google Classroom. Create in Google Docs and submit it to Google Classroom.
A paragraph is 7-9 sentences for grade 7

So the consensus is that you are not allowed to buy treats at the theater; however, the big surprise is we can bring in our own treats. Just bring in some Halloween treats and don't forget to bring in a healthy drink.

Hello

I think today's trip was successful. At the very least you learned the type of shelter you may need if stranded in the wild.
There may be a quiz tomorrow on the three types of questions and an example for each type. We began Literature Circles tomorrow. Just to establish a facilitator for the next lesson. We also look at book reviews.
Anyway, I'm tired. I think I'll take a nap. Be good to each other and pay it forward.

My phone doesn't connect to my Mac very well. I will continue to try, so I can get our pictures of Milne up. Have a great evening you guys.

Homework: Understand today's literacy blog--all concepts (elements of a novel), 5 talk moves, how a facilitator conducts him/herself and you should be ready to get started with Literature Circles. Like I've mentioned literature circles has a major component of independent work and time for you to shine. I have complete faith in all of you!

BRAND NEW UNITS COMING TO YOU SOON

We are moving forward in literacy. We jump into both Literature Circles and Book Reviews. If I were you, I would start researching both. An introduction to Literature Circles will be integrated during Monday literacy block. Book Reviews will possibly start on Thursday or the following Monday--I haven't decided as yet. If you don't know about either one of them--START RESEARCHING!!! These are both big units--I can't emphasize that enough.

Research all titles
Prioritize from 1-3 which books you want to read
Go to link on 5 talk moves and research my expectations for each group
Have a good understanding of the word Facilitator
Reread the 3 types of questions (understand it--you might be quizzed on it later this week)
Research words like setting, mood, plot, character (goal, motivation, conflict), climax, problem/solution, theme, rising action and falling action (feel free to add anything else I missed)

Hey, what's up?

Just to reiterate, grammar is important in writing. Those of you who received feedback  on your reflecting piece citing that you've committed structural flaws in your writing should practice online grammar worksheets. I have provided a link to a colossal amount of worksheets. You should put in some practice time.

Have a great weekend! Take some time for you and do something fun and exciting. Do something you wouldn't normally do making it an unpredictable event. Attempt to read for about 1 hour or more (Lucas).  Do imaginary homework if you desire (Isabelle). Enjoy and experience the thrilling aspect of piano theory (Rachel) and swimming outdoors (Kenny) and of course playing golf in the cold (Annabelle).

Great Races

Yes, I know running can be tiring--you all did very well and some of you pushed yourselves although you were tired: Perseverance. I"m still marking Reflection pieces.
