Pine Crest

Show Mom, Dad, Guardian the Pine Crest form. Let them check off either yes or no. Return form tomorrow. I trust you will all have your forms first thing tomorrow morning. Have a great evening. Keep warm and commit to 30 minutes of reading this evening.

YUNJI AND OTHERS: FOR THOSE WHO FORGOT THEIR NOTE, PLEASE TELL YOUR PARENTS ABOUT PINE CREST AND GET THEM TO WRITE A NOTE EXPRESSING IF THEY WANT YOU TO GO OR NOT TO GO TO PINE CREST.

NOTE:

The Grade 7 team at Central Park Public School is very excited to offer your students the opportunity to attend a 2-night overnight trip to Camp Pine Crest in Torrance, ON. We would be departing Central Park P.S. on Oct 18th at approximately 9:30am, and returning at approximately 2:30pm on Oct 20th.

The students will spend time being physically active as they engage in hiking, archery, drumming and many more skill building activities. Students experience success and become more confident leading to a higher esteem and resiliency. Students develop life-long skills and learn different ways to respect, collaborate, and communicate with their peers. Ultimately, students are given opportunities to reconnect with nature, enriching their perception of the world.

The cost of the trip would be approximately $175, depending on attendance.  Before we move forward with booking the trip, we need an approximate number of students who would be interested in attending.

Hello 7B

Hi Guys and Gals
Great effort at the Terry Fox Run/Walk. I saw a lot of you conducting yourself in a respectful and mannerly fashion. It was a nice way to end the afternoon. Make sure you read at least 30 minutes this evening/night and dot to dot as many connections as you possibly can: discover the pattern. Other than that have a wonderful evening.

Three Day Weekend!

Remember you guys don't come to school on Monday! Rest up and rejuvenate yourselves. You have worksheet # 3 to do and that's mandatory. All the other worksheets are optional and please feel free to do it if you wish (good practice). What a great literacy period! You guys were awesome today and I thoroughly enjoyed  reading all of your reflective pieces. Some of you have proven to be very effective writers, others need to work on punctuation and sentence flow--but we'll cover that during the year. Remember do lots of reading this weekend and although you don't have to do your summary or inferring in your reading journal, you should still be thinking about those reading strategies when you read this weekend. I will see you Tuesday--have a spectacular and memorable weekend! And if the sun is blazing down this weekend get outside and let it sprinkle you with light and warmth.

Hello All

Hey All:
The review of reading strategies is going very well. Inferring is probably the most challenging one because it's very rational and logically dimensional. We'll be spending a few days with this particular strategy. Afterwards, we are into Literacy Units: the fun begins! Thanks for staying focused and attentive.  On another note: I've taught other grade 7 classes, but you guys are the best grade 7 class I could ever hope for!!! Give yourself a star for being top-tier!

Getting Better....

Today most of you seem to be grasping the main idea, better than yesterday. Great effort! In class tomorrow give yourselves a star. We'll be moving away from the main idea and onto inferring. The reading strategies we've reviewed thus far should be used in your reading, whether in class or evening/nightly at home. Continue working hard. I am proud of each and every one of you. Have a great afternoon! And get out and do something fun in the sun, while it's still here.

DRA's

Hey guys:
I know today was a little intense. After DRA's the waters will be calmer for other language activities. Good Job today focusing on your DRA. Prediction Worksheet 4 on our virtual classroom is not homework. Take the afternoon off and soak up some needed sunshine and free time. Catch you tomorrow. Oh, don't forget to read for at 30 minutes this evening--reading is excellent for the brain! I guess you do have some nonrelated homework :)

prediction

prediction: comprehension strategy

-create notes on the second and third slide and continue collaborating on the remaining slides

Monday Homework

Surf online for a good, if not, a solid understanding of the parts of speech, like  nouns, verbs, adverbs and so forth. This will not only, help in your writing, or building your vocabulary, but also in conversations with those around you.

So Proud!

Guys, I really appreciate how you've been so enthused to try different things this week. I realize it's just the first week, however, I feel like we've been a strong and connected class for months. I liked how you collaborated today in your groups to develop a variation of comprehension strategies. Also, I liked how everyone was so focused on our Prediction worksheet #1. Remember Prediction worksheet #2 is due Monday. I have given you a choice to do it online or to submit a hard copy: the choice is yours. On the weekend attempt an hour of reading. It's not that far fetched if you break it down into half-hour segments each day.  Enjoy the weekend! Get out there and do something fun and meaningful--you may not know it now but these moments in your young life are truly remarkable and lasting. See you Monday morning!

Choosing a Just Right Book

I liked how the class collaborated today on how to choose a 'Just Right Book.' The strategies you choose to select a book is important for you as a reader. You want to select a book that is engaging and creates scenes that are imaginative. Tomorrow we will discuss the comprehension strategy: prediction--questions to ask as you read, which by the way, makes reading that much more dynamic and interactive. Have a wonderful evening you guys.

Excellent Job Today!

Thanks everyone for getting on board with Google Classroom. All of you were successful in downloading classroom and sending me a test page. Google Classroom is an essential part of digital learning and I want you to acquire the internet tools that will be prevalent for your future learning. I don't expect you to fully understand Google Classroom this early in the year--but trust me, you'll be very proficient at it after dedicated practice. Have a great afternoon and evening.

Survived the First Day!

We had a great day! You guys were attentive and your listening was absolutely fantastic. Keep up the great attention and precise focus--pat yourself on your back for doing a great job.
